BTG will be in a transition period for the next couple of months. During this time I will be refreshing and updating the best static content and porting it over to the new system. This older version of the site will remain online for an extended period, but you will only find the newest stories and information on the new site.

VIDEO: The closest thing to crashing... without crashing!

scooby crash

It's a common problem, and not one that's going to go away soon. If you're flat out up Kesselchen then you're going to pitching into a blind left-hander at anything up to or over 200kmh (120mph).

And if somebody is stopped the other side of that corner?

Then you get a video like this:

Now before anybody points fingers and lays blame... let's just look at what you can see in the video and follow the logical train of thought:

  • The guys in the Subarus are going fairly quickly, and they're driving in a 'pack'.
  • The problem is that driving like this is like driving in a race. You can't see what's in front of you.
  • The solution for this is a team of 600 or so trained safety marshalls with flags.
  • We don't have, and will never have, that many flags in public driving!

The drivers shouldn't feel too bad though, that was a pretty lucky escape and much more than the Ring Taxi managed a couple of years ago.

I do have ONE little suggestion though. Can we have another radio-controlled flashing yellow light around Streckenpost 127?

UPDATE: Here's the onboard from the very sideways black Subaru:

BTG is NOT a massive operation; it's just me, my camera and my computer. And a lot of help from my friends and family. Thanks!
