No sooner are we told that all 500 Lexus LFAs are sold, than a totally new version of the Japanese supercar starts belting around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

This is the Lexus LFA, AD-A version. Like the 2010 Nürburgring Edition test mule (numberplate 079, see it here 2 years ago) it features a fixed rear wing and mesh-style alloy wheels. And there's that lush lacquered carbon bonnet and roof, joined by carbon-fibre canards or dive-planes (pictured left).
But this turquoise-coloured beastie also gets a very unusual addition. A new exhaust system does away with the central exit of the original system for two pairs of exits placed right underneath the rear lights!
Additional venting also hints at the focus on performance, as does the lack of sound-proofing in the rear compartment (see right).
The LFA was never a massively mass-production car, so it's difficult to understand the idea behind another version of the same car. The Nürburgring edition (which came with a season ticket for public driving, and held the lap record for just over a week) had a very simple premise, which some might say it failed to achieve the moment the Viper ACR knocked it off top spot. So what's the AD-A for? One very rich customer? Or a new record? Only time will tell...
