VIDEO: The 10 hardest crashes at the Nürburgring?

One YouTube user has just cut-down his epic 16-minute compilation video to just ten bone-crunching impacts. And I was there for one of them…

VIDEO: Hello? Is that 1994? Can we have our N24 back please?

You might want to call me a nostalgic fool, but I just love watching these old N24 videos. They’re full of real production-based tin-top racing.

This gem from 1994 is full of BMW E36s, a few E30s and some really cool Ford Sierras and Opel Astras. Check out the centre-locks on the FINA E36!

It’s not that I dislike GT3 cars, I’ve driven them, raced against them, and think they’re generally awesome. I just don’t think they belong in the same grid as Toyota GT86s and BMW 325s. Continue reading VIDEO: Hello? Is that 1994? Can we have our N24 back please?

VIDEO: Watch this before every ‘Ring visit

As is the ‘norm’ in 2015, every major Nürburgring crash-vulture YouTuber has released a compilation video. All of the ‘best/most spectacular’ crashes of the whole year in one tape.

Interestingly enough they always seem to result in a video of about 16 minutes in length. This newest one only went online late last night, uploaded by rallyeoberehe.

As you might have guessed, it’s a pure shot of Schadenfreude. But watching it might also be a bloody good way of keeping your Ego under control before every lap… Continue reading VIDEO: Watch this before every ‘Ring visit

VIDEO: Why I don’t ride motorcycles on the Nürburgring (much, anymore)

The thrill of motorcycling comes not from safety or security, but from the excitement of taming a machine that will undoubtedly hurt you, should you get it wrong.

For many, many years I made my living by riding bikes and writing about it. In that time I did a few thousand laps of the Nordschleife on two wheels, not all of them slow.

But in the last few years my switch to four-wheels has been almost complete. Family, kids, VLN… no need for two wheel thrills, and a heightened fear of two wheel spills.

And if I ever feel the urge again? I’m just going to watch this video:

VIDEO: Not a single crash here, which is very VERY surprising.

Sometimes it’s skill that saves these drivers, but it’s probably just luck. Random, chaos theory numbers, cascading around the Nürburgring and somehow not hitting the barriers.

Either that, or somebody’s invented car wax with negatively-charged ions capable of repelling barrier.

But it’s probably just the first thing. Enjoy. Continue reading VIDEO: Not a single crash here, which is very VERY surprising.

VIDEO: Did you know there was a Yellowbird sequel? Watch it here

Only a couple of weeks ago RUF dropped the original full-length Yellowbird CTR movie onto their YouTube channel. It reminded many of us of the original reasons we first loved the Nordschleife.

Of course, every iteration of Porsche has enjoyed a RUF make-over, but the next one to get the full video treatment was the 996-based RUF RTurbo of 2001.

Flugplatz: Your jump is safe… for now!

Many fans are concerned that the Nordschleife is about to ‘lose’ one of its most famous corners, but these photos would suggest there’s not too much to worry about.

So far the work seems restricted to mounting yet another layer of FIA-approved crash fencing on the left side of the bend, where the Nismo GT3 notoriously left the track and killed a spectator in VLN1. Continue reading Flugplatz: Your jump is safe… for now!
