Driving the VLN Test & Einstellfahrten: wet and wild

After the heart-lifting golden sunshine of the Nürburgring’s first weekend of opening, it should be no surprise that the second week was completely the opposite.

Sure enough, moody dark clouds, full of morale-sapping drizzle, hung low over the Eifel mountains on Saturday as over 100 VLN racing cars took to the Nordschleife.

And #TeamBTG was there with our new GT86 Cup by Toyota Motorsports GmbH. Continue reading Driving the VLN Test & Einstellfahrten: wet and wild

We just built a 68hp Citroën racecar and drove it for 24-hours at Spa Francorchamps…

…and it was AWESOME.

So what do you want to know first? Let’s divide it up for ease of reading:

  1. Why C1 racing?
  2. How do you build your car?
  3. Is it fun?
  4. How did your first race go?
  5. The numbers

VIDEO: EPIC last-lap battle from 2006 Fiesta ST Cup

If you’ve not seen this video yet, sit down and grab a cup of tea/coffee/whatever and get comfy. Ten years ago I featured this on the front-page of BTG and it was a massive hit. And that last corner?! Holy crap… Continue reading VIDEO: EPIC last-lap battle from 2006 Fiesta ST Cup

VIDEO: Hello? Is that 1994? Can we have our N24 back please?

You might want to call me a nostalgic fool, but I just love watching these old N24 videos. They’re full of real production-based tin-top racing.

This gem from 1994 is full of BMW E36s, a few E30s and some really cool Ford Sierras and Opel Astras. Check out the centre-locks on the FINA E36!

It’s not that I dislike GT3 cars, I’ve driven them, raced against them, and think they’re generally awesome. I just don’t think they belong in the same grid as Toyota GT86s and BMW 325s. Continue reading VIDEO: Hello? Is that 1994? Can we have our N24 back please?

Provisional 2016 VLN Calendar released

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we were enjoying the final VLN of 2015, and already the 2016 dates have been released.

And even if you don’t come to the Nürburgring to enjoy the VLN, these dates can be really useful for planning your public driving trips too.

Z24h: Wet and wild

LATEST UPDATE HERE

For reasons only known to the Belgians. the Zolder 24-hours squeezes all practice and qualifying into the Thursday before the race. And despite the forecast of a mini-heatwave for this weekend, today is definitely very wet and quite cold.

Perfect weather then, to hand works driver Markus Palttala the key to our little car and see what it can do against a significantly faster and fitter field….

Yesterday I reported on the breathtaking spectacle of the official FIA WTCC test day here at the Nürburgring.

Less than 24-hours after the test finished, Citroën Racing have already uploaded their video from the event. And it includes a little piece of onboard footage that will make you grin… check it out!
