There’s little doubt that the gap between virtual and reality is closing faster than a GT3 and an MX5 along the Döttinger Höhe. And this weekend was a water-shed moment for fans of the Nürburgring and racing sims.
My first laps of the Nürburgring were nearly 17 years ago, and they were virtual. When it was released Grand Prix Legends was instantly one of the best driving games ever. And one of the first games that could actually do the word ‘simulation’ some justice.
Maybe that’s why I enjoyed this video so much.

Regular readers of BTG might remember that I met some of the guys behind the massive iRacing simulator last month and got a sneak peek of their laser-scanned Nordschleife and Nürburgring GP circuits.
But last night they dropped another teaser video, over 10 minutes long, and it’s full of new material.
As the title says, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to the iRacing guys at the second-ever Sim-Racing Expo last weekend, and they were kind enough to let me have a quick go on their rig. Here’s what I found out!
iRacing might be one of the toughest and most realistic simulators on the PC market. And soon it will boast a centimetre-accurate version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife…
