On Saturday our Milltek Sport team will head out into VLN qualifying with more than just a pole position on our minds. Each of our three drivers will be heading out on to the Nürburgring looking for a pole position that could lead to a championship victory in our first GT86 Cup season.
In clichéd Nürburgring VLN conditions, our Milltek Sport team powered through to secure a third win in the Toyota Motorsports GT86 Cup!
After a soaking wet shakedown session on Friday afternoon, our new, post-N24, gearbox began to fail. Thus began a weekend where every single team member played a part in the eventual victory. Our gearbox was ordered at 6pm, the end of Friday practice, and by 8pm Toyota Motorsports were delivering it to the Manheller workshop. Shortly before 10pm, we were strapping the GT86 back in to the Milltek Sport trailer ready to return to the paddock.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife isn’t the oldest racetrack in the world, but with 90 years of racing under its belt, but I’m going to go on record as saying it’s the best.
Construction started in September 1925, but the epic circuit we all know and love wasn’t completed until late Spring in 1927.

A nail-biting climax to a hard-fought 24-hour race saw the Milltek Sport team ascend the Nürburgring 24-hour podium on Sunday. Their Toyota GT86 Cup car took third place out of 15 starters in the highly competitive SP3 class for 2-litre modified sportscars. Pitted against factory-backed teams from around the world. The SP3 class is the second biggest class at the N24, with only the multi-million-budget GT3 class boasting more starters.
It’s the biggest race of the year, the ultimate test on the ultimate race circuit. The Milltek GT86 Cup car is running against legends like the Opel Manta and Clio Cup in class SP3. Luke and myself have been joined by Werner and Moritz Gusenbauer.

VLN1 was an incredible spectacle. Not only was the weather unusually perfect, but the action was none-stop. For the spectators, this was simply awesome.

After the heart-lifting golden sunshine of the Nürburgring’s first weekend of opening, it should be no surprise that the second week was completely the opposite.
Sure enough, moody dark clouds, full of morale-sapping drizzle, hung low over the Eifel mountains on Saturday as over 100 VLN racing cars took to the Nordschleife.
