Now any collision between a ton-and-a-half of car and some poor bloke on a bike is going to be ugly.
But luckily for the biker, he lives to ride another day. If he feels like it…
…because from this angle I’ve got to say: damn, he really screwed that up.
Watch for yourself:
Points I would note, in no particular order:
- The Porsche Cayman GT4 is on the left side of the track, which is the correct side to overtake.
- The biker had panicked and is running wide. It’s arguable that he would have crashed whether or not the Porsche was there.
- No doubt the biker will point out that a Porsche passing on the outside is enough to put most people off their line.
- Lastly, passing in a corner is a really dodgy move. I’m not gonna say I’ve never done it, but passing a wobbly bike with inches to spare?
So with the benefit of perfect hindsight it becomes obvious that as the biker, it’s almost unnecessary to worry about who’s fault it is. Because tarmac hurts.
And as a car driver, leave plenty of room for bikers.
Whether it’s cars overtaking on the wrong side of the track in public driving, race cars ignoring double yellow flags, or pedestrians narrowly avoiding crashing cars, the Nürburgring is clearly dangerous.

It’s an argument that’s probably as old as the Nurburgring Nordschleife itself. When an overtake results in a crash, both drivers will normally blame each other. In some circumstances it’s hard to ever place blame on one driver completely. Continue reading VIDEO: Why checking your mirrors is quite important on the ‘Ring
If you consult Google Maps, the fast left-hander that is Schwedenkreuz doesn’t really look like much trouble at all. A 30º left-hander with no real drama at all.
So why does the next video show just so much car carnage?
Sit down, watch this 2016 Schwedenkreuz crash compilation video, and I’ll try to explain. Continue reading VIDEO: Is Schwedenkreuz the most dangerous corner on the Nürburgring?

Any racing driver will tell you, a good overtake is clean, decisive and clear.
This overtake is absolutely none of those things.
And the result is predictably heart-breaking…

I’ve already posted a couple of videos from last Sunday’s terroristenfahrten session, but new videos just keep arriving in the BTG inbox every day.
And this one’s worth sharing for one reason only; it’s a perfect demonstration of somebody too eager to overtake, even in a bad position. Continue reading VIDEO: You can’t ‘win’ touristenfahrten, but you can certainly lose it…
This is a pretty shocking video, and hats off to the guy for uploading it. It shows a big mistake at the Nürburgring, and the horrible consequences.

Like a grumpy old man, hanging on to photos of his ‘glory days’, I often like to remind people that I have a motorbike license and used to get up to some pretty batshit-crazy stuff on a motorcycle.
We were going sub-8 on motorbikes back when you needed a GT3 on race tyres to keep up, and not just a family hatchback. Continue reading VIDEO: Three reasons I don’t ride motorbikes on TF anymore
