AMG readying new C63 S Coupe, and new ‘go-even-faster’ models

This is the new C63 S Coupe, powered by the 4.0-litre ‘hot-V’ twin-turbo V8 that’s becoming almost ubiquitous in every new AMG. But what’s more exciting is what’s hidden by the stark camouflage…

Special Ferrari-only event for Ferraris only.

Visitors to the Nürburgring Nordschleife today were treated to the spectacle of over 25 matching Ferrari caps, T-shirts, lanyards, driving shoes and an array of pretentious string-back driving gloves.

Also, there were some nice cars. Here are some of the photos of the latter (and only a few of the former).

VIDEO: Tractor chaos at the Nürburgring carpark

Sunday’s public session was rudely interrupted by a disgruntled tractor driver, who tried to drive on to the Nürburgring Nordschleife while alledgedly shouting all manner of obscenities…

More personal thoughts on the Nürburgring speedlimit debacle.

If it’s a choice between lapping with speed limits and not lapping at all, I’ll take the speed limits. It’s a shame we are in this position, and it sucks that the suits and bean-counters can’t tell the difference between a freak, flying GT3 car and the rest of us. But let’s be honest… Practically the limits probably affect less than 10% of the traffic. I just hope that the management understand the severity of the PR situation and look for a better solution ASAP. Personally, I would lament track modifications such as levelling the jumps, but we have to accept that this has happened many times before. The 30s nordschleife was different to the 50s, was different to the 70s, was different to the 80s, etc… Let’s stay positive and try to support the ‘Ring. 👍🚗🏁

Nürburgring Speedlimits: Making sense of the mess

The words “speedlimit” and “racetrack” should never really come together. But since the tragic incident in VLN1, they’ve become an unwelcome reality in all DMSB racing events on the Nordschleife.

We hoped that they would be a temporary fix, a band-aid over the wound caused by just one car having a freak accident. But with speedtraps and redflags on a trackday this week, it looks like now they’re here for everybody.

In the latest print issue of Sport Auto, Marcus Schurig wrote an excellent column on the issue, but also admitted that Sport Autos famous ‘superlap’ laptimes are subject to the same (arguably ridiculous) rules.

What does that mean? Who will it affect? Let’s find out…

Mark Webber drives a Porsche 991 GT3RS at the Nurburgring Nordschleife

Yesterday’s unexpected silver arrival at the Nürburgring Nordschleife carpark for “sighting laps”, coupled with tonight’s lack of public opening, meant that we were all expecting something exciting. And I think we just got it…
