This Sunday is the Nürburgring’s 90th birthday

The Nürburgring Nordschleife isn’t the oldest racetrack in the world, but with 90 years of racing under its belt, but I’m going to go on record as saying it’s the best.

Construction started in September 1925, but the epic circuit we all know and love wasn’t completed until late Spring in 1927.

And that first race? Continue reading This Sunday is the Nürburgring’s 90th birthday

Schwedenkreuz proves it isn’t getting any easier

You’d think that with the proliferation of the internet and the reach of social media, that maybe the accident rate at the Nürburgring would slow down a little. That maybe, because most Nordschleife accidents are more widely viewed than ever before, visitors might be a little more cautious. Or at least, a little bit more aware of the consequences they face.

This BMW 5-series rolling over the fence into the forest at Schwedenkreuz sadly proves otherwise. Continue reading Schwedenkreuz proves it isn’t getting any easier

Today we lost a good guy at the ‘Ring, and we need to fix that.

By now you might have heard that there was a horrific accident at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. That a man was run over while running along the track.  Well, let me put that somewhat ludicrous statement into perspective. Continue reading Today we lost a good guy at the ‘Ring, and we need to fix that.

VIDEO: Watch that horrific airborne Clio crash from directly behind

The Clio crash on Saturday was without a doubt the talk of the Nürburgring for the last couple of days. The driver, who I won’t name, was no stranger to the Nürburgring, but his crash was spectacular, garnering 100,000 views in only a couple of days.

VIDEO: Luckiest biker ever survives 160kmh ‘push’ and two barrier impacts.

If you don’t physically flinch when watching this next video, you’re either a psychopath or a robot. Because this is one of the scariest videos I’ve seen in a while.

The action kicks off after the karussell (7m25s) when the camera bike follows the red cayman up the hill towards Hohe Acht, overtaking the cars on the right. Continue reading VIDEO: Luckiest biker ever survives 160kmh ‘push’ and two barrier impacts.

Dodo Juice launch next-gen “GreenShell” ARMCO-REPELLING wax!

Truly we live in an enlightened age of incredible technical achievements. Robots to Mars, telescopes that can see planets and all our knowledge (and a lot of cat videos) accessible from the palm of our hand.

But, what about…. ARMCO-REPELLING car polish?!

I thought I’d seen everything already, until I watched this video… Continue reading Dodo Juice launch next-gen “GreenShell” ARMCO-REPELLING wax!

Surtees Corner: honouring a true RINGMEISTER.

When I ask you to name the world’s greatest racers, you’re spoiled for choice. So many legends, heroes and great human beings to choose from.

But, here’s mine: John Surtees. And we need to NAME a corner of the Nordschleife in honour of him. And I need YOUR HELP. Continue reading Surtees Corner: honouring a true RINGMEISTER.

SURPRISE! The Nürburgring is opening EARLY this year

Well, earlier than planned, anyway. Those of you who were planning to drive the ‘first day’ of 2017 Nordschleife Touristenfahrten need to cross out Sunday March 19th from your calendar, and enter Saturday March 11th instead. Continue reading SURPRISE! The Nürburgring is opening EARLY this year

Nürburgring’s most famous corner goes (almost) gravel-free

It’s the star of a thousand internet videos, and has jokingly been renamed “YouTube Corner”. But now the Nürburgring’s famous Brünnchen 2 is going almost gravel-free.

Now don’t get your knickers in a twist. The old Nordschleife is a constantly changing beast, and track modifications happen every year. I’ll be talking about some more 2017 modifications soon.

But this change, while theoretically without consequence for any ‘normal’ track user, is bound to cause a bit of head-scratching for many regulars.

Why? Take a look for yourself…

VIDEO: The most dangerous situations on the Nürburgring

Whether it’s cars overtaking on the wrong side of the track in public driving, race cars ignoring double yellow flags, or pedestrians narrowly avoiding crashing cars, the Nürburgring is clearly dangerous.
