It’s nearly time for VLN4, so let’s get warmed up with a scintillating lap onboard the Stilgut GetSpeed Cayman GT4 Clubsport, as resident pro-driver Moritz Kranz chases a (theoretically) far superior Ferrari 458 race car…
Manthey Racing, the Porsche-owned, semi-factory tuning and racing shop here at the ‘Ring just tuned a Cayman GT4.
Considering that these are the guys who helped develop and build the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, there was little doubt it was going to be fast. But did you ever think it would be THIS fast?
It’s not often I’m lost for words when watching an onboard video from the Nürburgring, but I was totally dumb-struck as I watched this onboard from the weekend’s Touristenfahrten.
It shows a rented Porsche Cayman being driven somewhat enthusiastically. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all about enthusiasm, and I’ve not forgotten the times back when I was learning the 20.8km Nordschleife. I went over Adenauer Forst, and I span, many times. Nobody’s perfect, am I right?

Last month I shot a rather nice Porsche GT4 Cup car for Getspeed. Turns out that one of the drivers this year is my mate Moritz… better still he was at the Skylimitevents trackday yesterday, and he shot us this video. Enjoy!
Sitting in my office yesterday lunchtime, considering food, watching the snowflakes swirling past the window, I hear the bark of a flat-six starting up. A mini-crescendo that tails off quickly to a fast idle as a Porsche race-car warms up.
Then another one. And another. And another….
Now that’s not too unusual when your office is next to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but this is February, remember? We’re nearly two months away from the first race. Like a nosey old woman, I poke my head out of the window to see what’s going on.
As many as 15 Cayman GT4s might be racing in next year’s VLN Championship, according to two different industry insiders.
Today Porsche are launching the Cayman GT4 Clubsport to the world’s press at the LA Motorshow with price stickers and possible championships. But behind the scenes, the cars are already allocated and ready to be built.
We can even expect a single-make ‘Cup’ class (much like the very popular M235i class, and the less popular GT86 class).
I’ll be honest, I’d almost forgotten about this video, which dropped on to YouTube only last week. It’s Christian Gebhardt doing the Sport Auto Superlap in the new Porsche Cayman GT4.
