The thrill of motorcycling comes not from safety or security, but from the excitement of taming a machine that will undoubtedly hurt you, should you get it wrong.
For many, many years I made my living by riding bikes and writing about it. In that time I did a few thousand laps of the Nordschleife on two wheels, not all of them slow.
But in the last few years my switch to four-wheels has been almost complete. Family, kids, VLN… no need for two wheel thrills, and a heightened fear of two wheel spills.
And if I ever feel the urge again? I’m just going to watch this video:

Sometimes it’s skill that saves these drivers, but it’s probably just luck. Random, chaos theory numbers, cascading around the Nürburgring and somehow not hitting the barriers.
Either that, or somebody’s invented car wax with negatively-charged ions capable of repelling barrier.
But it’s probably just the first thing. Enjoy. Continue reading VIDEO: Not a single crash here, which is very VERY surprising.
A lot of people ask me “How could we make the Nürburgring’s Touristenfahrten safer?”
The simple answer is probably just close the gate on Sunday at 11pm. But that’s not much fun, is it? An unrealistic answer would be more marshalls, flags (electronic F1-style lightboards would be fine) and a compulsory safety briefing delivered in every language. None of these are compatible with the wonderful freedom of old-school Touristenfahrten.
So here’s the BTG effort at keeping you guys safe. Watch these 16 minutes of crashing, smashing and failing. And repeat after me:
“Don’t be that guy!”

Within 20 seconds of starting this video, I *knew* it was going to a bad one. And I wasn’t wrong. (No, I’m not talking about the gloves-and-no-helmet stereotype).
Yellow flags waving, traffic slowing, and the driver of this Megane is gently accelerating and looking for an overtake on the right side.
Within a minute he’s speeding into a yellow zone and losing control heading straight for a marshall!
Amazingly enough, the uploader claims he completed 29 laps and put all the ‘best’ footage together. I say “amazingly” because after only a few minutes of watching, I begin to wonder how he made more than 1 lap without the help of Mr. Bongard. Or how he didn’t get a lifetime ban and a kick up the arse from everybody wearing a yellow vest.

Yesterday I shared my personal TOP5 Nürburgring Crash Videos from last weekend, but little did I know that I was missing one of the craziest videos this month…
Continue reading VIDEO: Three wheels on my ‘wagen, but I’m still rolling along
Before you watch this video, I just want to let you know that somehow, amazingly, the driver lived. Reports and eye-witnesses at the scene reported he was sore, bleeding from broken glass, but could be categorised as “walking wounded”.

This is a hot topic at the Nürburgring, and has been for decades already. But living as we do, in the Golden Age (or Wild West) of social media, I have a big question for you…

UPDATED WITH ONBOARD VIDEO!
Going straight-on at Adenauer Forst is nothing new or unusual. If you stand there at 8am on a Sunday morning you can probably see a dozen bikes or cars make that mistake in the first hour.
But what happens to this poor E30 is just awful. Continue reading VIDEO: Unlucky E30 driver, wiped out by an Audi TT at Adenauer Forst
Attempts to create a Corvette even crazier than the standard version ended badly this week.
Not content with sharing the Z06’s standard 505hp between two wheels, this modified car added an undisclosed amount of power, then ejected (what appears to be) the rear left wheel and significant pieces of the rear axle.
Just watch the video below:
