The world is full of difficult and complicated problems, but the general public wants only to understand the simplest of answers. That might not be a problem for the latest breed of politicians, but for measuring Nürburgring laptimes it’s a bit of a pain.
Earlier this year the 2019 Megane RS Trophy-R officially set a laptime of 7m45.39s, beating the previous FWD record holder, the Honda Civic Type-R. The Honda did a 7m43.80s back in 2017.
This month I whooped with joy as the Jaguar Project 8 crossed the finish line at T13 to complete a 7m23.16s lap, beating the 7m21s laptime from 2017.
Obviously this makes no sense at face-value, and in a world where everybody reads a headline on facebook, but less than 5% actually click the link, you can almost forgive the manufacturers for massaging these confusing numbers back to some form of logical progression. But that’s wrong. And BTG is here to call it out.

Ignore the GT badges on the front of this Megane, spotted testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife this week. Instead look at the wheels, the brakes, and those bolt-on arches.
Looking from the rear, those tyres are at least a 235 size, maybe bigger.
Oh yes, that’s mostly like a test-mule for the Megane RS. A new RenaultSport machine, and (I’m told by those in the know) a strong contender for fastest-ever front-wheel-drive to ever hit the ‘Ring. Continue reading SPOTTED: Five-door automatic Megane RS test mule
Honda Europe and Renaultsport might have been fighting it out over laptimes for the last year and a bit, but nobody expected this
Last night the Nürburgring closed just a few minutes early, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether the guys wanted an early beer or if something had happened on track…
… the answer was THIS happened: Continue reading It’s not just Meganes that roll-over at Schwedenkreuz
Conspiracy theorists, sharpen your pencils and prepare your tinfoil hats. Yes, another white Megane rolled at Schwedenkreuz at yesterday, and YES Eifler888 was there to video it…

Within 20 seconds of starting this video, I *knew* it was going to a bad one. And I wasn’t wrong. (No, I’m not talking about the gloves-and-no-helmet stereotype).
Yellow flags waving, traffic slowing, and the driver of this Megane is gently accelerating and looking for an overtake on the right side.
Within a minute he’s speeding into a yellow zone and losing control heading straight for a marshall!
Amazingly enough, the uploader claims he completed 29 laps and put all the ‘best’ footage together. I say “amazingly” because after only a few minutes of watching, I begin to wonder how he made more than 1 lap without the help of Mr. Bongard. Or how he didn’t get a lifetime ban and a kick up the arse from everybody wearing a yellow vest.
Continue reading VIDEO: Worst ever TF driver? You tell me…
Before you watch this video, I just want to let you know that somehow, amazingly, the driver lived. Reports and eye-witnesses at the scene reported he was sore, bleeding from broken glass, but could be categorised as “walking wounded”.

This weekend the Nürburgring was busy. No, it was packed. Actually, it was SWARMING with holiday-happy visitors.
Perfect weather, an epic VLN race on Saturday (Alzen Ford GT OMG-edition), and then a full day of TF on Sunday.
“What could possibly be better?!”
