A lot of people ask me “How could we make the Nürburgring’s Touristenfahrten safer?”
The simple answer is probably just close the gate on Sunday at 11pm. But that’s not much fun, is it? An unrealistic answer would be more marshalls, flags (electronic F1-style lightboards would be fine) and a compulsory safety briefing delivered in every language. None of these are compatible with the wonderful freedom of old-school Touristenfahrten.
So here’s the BTG effort at keeping you guys safe. Watch these 16 minutes of crashing, smashing and failing. And repeat after me:
“Don’t be that guy!”

I’ll keep this super-short, as it’s just me selling you stuff. Cool Nordschleife themed stuff that you can’t buy in any shop, at a special price, this week only.

Earlier today the Nürburgring announced the full details of the seven planned modifications to the Nürburgring Nordschleife that will enable to the track to keep it’s FIA license AND (most importantly) shed those terrible speed-limits.
Only one of the modifications will change the way we drive the track, the rest are all aimed at spectator safety.

With the millions and millions of new videos uploaded to YouTube every year, perhaps it’s no surprising that we miss one or two.
But this clip is pure gold for Nürburgring fans! It’s the first half of the 1975 documentary Champions Forever*.
When you click play below, you should start at exactly the right spot, you want to watch from 20minutes in:

It was a time of mullets, neon colours, and perfectly prepared production saloons and hatchbacks. Yes, I know, that could be any time in Germany’s recent history.
But I’m actually referring to the mid-1980s.
This video just surfaced on YouTube and it appears to be a VHS-rip of a 10-minute ZDF report on the Nürburgring 24-hour. I would highly recommend watching it below.

If there was University degree in Nordschleife Studies, I would make the following video a compulsory part of the course.
For a whole generation of petrolheads, this was the video that ignited our love for the old 20.8km Nürburgring. This was THE supercar of its day at and beyond the limits of driving for nearly 20 glorious minutes.
You think you’ve got skills? You think you’re a big-shot? You ain’t Stefan Roser in brown loafers drifting a 500hp Porsche at 150mph, son. So GTFO.

Within 20 seconds of starting this video, I *knew* it was going to a bad one. And I wasn’t wrong. (No, I’m not talking about the gloves-and-no-helmet stereotype).
Yellow flags waving, traffic slowing, and the driver of this Megane is gently accelerating and looking for an overtake on the right side.
Within a minute he’s speeding into a yellow zone and losing control heading straight for a marshall!
Amazingly enough, the uploader claims he completed 29 laps and put all the ‘best’ footage together. I say “amazingly” because after only a few minutes of watching, I begin to wonder how he made more than 1 lap without the help of Mr. Bongard. Or how he didn’t get a lifetime ban and a kick up the arse from everybody wearing a yellow vest.

From #TeamBTG N24 underdog, to Race of Champions contender against the likes of Vettel, Button, Doohan, Solberg and Marquez.
Does that sound unrealistic? Even dream-like? Well, it’s really not.

Chasing laptimes is a disease. An infection that regular Nürburgring visitors know about all too well. Fellow ring-resident, instructor (destructor) and VLN regular Gabriele has the illness. Reality and common-sense has left the building, and he’s taken his life in his own hands to bring you this lap.
And I salute him!
The video below isn’t just a fully-committed lap worthy of these pages, it’s also a rather hilarious insight into the disparity between the real world, and YouTube Comments Land.

I don’t watch many onboard laps right ’til the end. I get sent at least two or three everyday by hopefuls asking me to critique their lap*, but I just don’t have the time.
But Gerrit’s video from VLN10, onboard in his little Renaultsport Clio Cup, had me gripped. And I think you’ll enjoy it too…
